TRIUMF AMIRIA LOVE LETTER TO IRINA BUJOR /
TRIUMF AMIRIA LOVE LETTER TO MIHAI MIHALCEA

Curator: KILOBASE BUCHAREST
10.05 – 23.07.2022

Continuing the curatorial format “LOVE LETTER TO […]”, created in 2021 as part of the TRIUMF AMIRIA concept, KILOBASE BUCHAREST and KUNSTHALLE BEGA Timișoara present LOVE LETTER TO IRINA BUJOR and LOVE LETTER TO MIHAI MIHALCEA – two exhibitions which bring together queer statements, in a dialogue about the possibility of revisiting and resizing of worlds that, rather than divergent, overlap and intertwine. Mihai Mihalcea’s exhibition reveals a process, both subtle and intense, of negotiating with the artistic identities assumed over time, the “unit view” becoming the means of developing his artistic practice. In parallel, Irina Bujor’s exhibition talks about a tireless attempt to redefine her universe, in which empathy, identity, and the future are infused with always unexpected meanings.

Irina Bujor develops her practices mainly in relation to the particular context offered by small towns in Romania and Germany. Her artworks are based on formal associations that open a singular poetic vein; multi-layered images and installations highlight the fragility and instability that question our seemingly secure reality. Applying a wide variety of artistic strategies, Irina develops a multifaceted practice around common phenomena that go unnoticed in the topics she addresses – laughter, gender, factories that produce popular culture and things that saturate other things – and tools that constantly recalibrate her universe.

Mihai Mihalcea is an artist and choreographer based in Bucharest. He created and co-founded fundamental structures and projects that led to the international recognition of Romanian contemporary dance creation. Between 1994-2009 he presented his choreographic works in institutions around the world, and in 2010 he assumed a fictitious artistic identity, Farid Fairuz, under which he continued his activity until 2019, making choreographic works and performances, live and for the camera, presented both in the context of visual arts and contemporary dance. Mihai continues his activity at the intersection between visual arts and dance, keeping a fresh eye on his artistic development.
